Brief
In April of 1976, the Phillips Petroleum Company was forced to dispose of its marketing and refining operations on the west coast. Phillips transferred those facilities to the Lion Oil Company. A subsidary of the Tosco Corporation, Tosco elected to exit the distribution business and the former Phillips '66' distributors were left without any marketing identification.
Accordingly, after a period of uncertainity, a group of these distributors agreed to hire legal counsel, invest $1,000 each and develop their own marketing logo Alliance'. These investments were later converted into common stock at the time of incorporation, September 20, 1976.
The original officers were:
| George Hill | President |
| Richard Crist | Vice President |
| James Gilpatric | Secretary |
| Robert Julian | Treasurer |
In the 33 years since its founding, Alliance Petroleum has continued to represent the interest of its over 100 members with rebate contracts with refiners; lube oil manufacturers; equipment suppliers; and other companies furnishing small company management tools.
